Another Card – But What’s the Real Buzz About?!
It sure has been a long and busy summer. I thought I would have created a few more drawings, but our new bees have taken some time. Watching the bees. Watching the bees some more. Feeding the bees. Swearing you will leave the bees alone and watching the bees anyway. Hive inspections. Treating the bees. Adding boxes to the hive….
So this weekend, I had a little time to sit at the drawing table and it was really therapeutic – and I still got to focus on the bees. I was struggling with coming up with things to draw, and then thought of my busy girls out back, and created the latest card in the Bumblejack catalog of greeting cards. This card was for them. And the birthday people.
Here is a glimpse of our new residents the Coriell Carnies (Carniolans) as of this year. That was at the start of the season, when I was terrified I would get stung so hence the full bee suit. I’ve gotten more comfortable since then….

And a closeup of a couple of these furry girls, thanks to my husband’s mad photography skills. I swear I could watch them all day if they’d let me.

The bees are scrambling to stock up for the upcoming winter season.
This week though, we are working to keep them hydrated. We have a pond, but we recently had the kiddie pool out for our tortoise, and they seemed to like that better. Once the heat wave wraps up, it will get easier and I will have more time to come up with new things to draw and get back to the table, but with the summer wrapping up and the bees getting a little bit more anxious as the flowers dwindle, we are keeping them as hydrated, shaded and comfortable as possible.
I just sent the Bee Day card out the printer, and when it’s up in the shop, you will be first to know!
